Covid-19 Policy Update – September 3, 2021
Dear Tamwood Community,
With the re-opening of services in BC and Ontario and recent announcements from the chief medical officers of Ontario and BC, we know you have a lot of questions about the safety measures Tamwood will be taking to protect our community from COVID and comply with the new health regulations.
We are working very closely with MTCU, PTIB, the Provincial Health Officers, and WorkSafe BC and Ontario to ensure Tamwood continues to comply as new measures are introduced.
My thanks to all of you for your ongoing patience as Tamwood responds to these evolving provincial orders and guidelines, as well as feedback from our community.
This week, in BC, the Provincial Health Officer issued a new province-wide mandatory mask requirement for all indoor public areas including all spaces at Tamwood. The new mask order also applies to all indoor public areas on all of our campus, including classrooms (when social distancing is not possible), lobbies, hallways, stairwells, and elevators.
This week, in Ontario, the Chief Medical Officer announced a new vaccine requirement for all post-secondary institutions that provides that effective September 7 staff, students and contractors are not permitted on campus unless they can show proof that they are fully vaccinated with a WHO recognized vaccine or, in the absence of proof of vaccination, if they show they have attended an approved vaccine benefits workshop and provide weekly a negative COVID19 antigen test result.
In alignment with this announcement in Ontario and with the BC government’s recent vaccine passport measures and feedback from our community, Tamwood will be implementing vaccine-related protocols to ensure maximum protection and safety for everyone learning or working at a Tamwood campus. This includes implementing mandatory confidential vaccine reporting for those immunized, and mandatory regular rapid testing for those who choose not to share their vaccination status or to not be vaccinated. This new policy will take effect on September 7, 2021 in Ontario (Toronto campus) and in the weeks to follow in BC (Vancouver campus).
We are committed to monitoring this in a way that is not disruptive to the learning, teaching, and other work that is of utmost importance to all in our Tamwood community.
If you are not yet vaccinated, we strongly encourage you to do so. There are vaccination clinics throughout the province. Vaccinations are the easiest and best way to protect yourself and those around you.
I appreciate you will have questions about these unfolding measures and we will continue to update you as more information becomes available.
In the meantime, students, faculty, and staff should direct questions to email@example.com for a timely response.
This is a time to take good care of yourself and access wellness supports. We ask for your ongoing patience and cooperation during this time of transition and we will continue to update you by email and at https://tamwood.com/covid/ .
