Tamwood Student
Support Services
Education/Program Progression Assistance & Learning Support Services
At Tamwood Careers, we are here to support you every step of the way. We offer support in the following areas:
- Orientation: Orientation helps students become familiar with campus life, available college services, key contacts, and much more. Orientation is program-specific and takes place in-person, on campus on the first day of class. For a sample of our orientation content, please see orientation slides. Download Orientation – Tamwood Vancouver.
- Co-Op Workshops: Co-op Workshops are hosted on campus, 2-3 times per month and cover topics such as the Canadian job market, resume and cover letter writing, LinkedIn and portfolio development, written communication, job interviews, and networking skills. The co-op workshop schedule is announced in classes each term and available on the co-op calendar published each month.
- Resume Clinics: Resume Clinics are conducted by the Academic and Co-op teams, who visit classes in the first term to review each student’s resume and provide personalized feedback. Students can book a resume one-on-one with a member of the co-op department at any time.
- Guest Speakers: Guest Speakers from various industries are regularly invited to Tamwood Careers classes to share their professional insights and market perspectives with students. Guest speaker sessions are program-specific and communicated to students by their instructors.
- Field Trips: Field Trips offer students a chance to leave the classroom environment and explore real-world, hands-on applications of what they are learning. Field trips are organized by both the academic department and faculty. Field trips are communicated to students by their instructors.
- Academic Office Hours: Students may request extra academic support by signing up for Academic Office Hours, available by appointment (visit our office on the 2rd floor or contact academicvan@tamwood.com to sign up!). Students who have not completed all course requirements will be notified by the student services team and encouraged to book an academic advising meeting to ensure continued program progression. For questions related to accessing your course content on Moodle, please see our Tamwood Careers Student Moodle Manual. Download Tamwood Careers Student Moodle Manual
- Graduation Ceremony: Graduation Ceremonies take place on campus and offer students the opportunity to celebrate their achievements with staff, family, and friends. Don’t forget to share your graduation photos on social media and tag us: @tamwoodcareers
At Tamwood Language Centres, we are here to support you every step of the way. We offer support in the following areas:
- Orientation & Welcome Package: Orientation helps students become familiar with campus life, Tamwood Language Centres services and resources, tips for life in Canada, guidance on public transportation and local amenities, key contacts, and more. Students will receive a welcome package by email two weeks before their start date, which includes instructions on how to complete the English Placement Test, as well as an invitation and zoom links to orientation (multiple sessions are hosted online every Friday and Sunday in multiple time zones). The welcome package also includes instructions on how to sign up for the Tamwood student portal, where you can find important information on your classes, Tamwood accommodation and Healthcare plan details. For more information see our sample orientation slides. Download Tamwood Language Vancouver Orientation
- On-Campus Information Services & Campus Tours: Once you arrive in Canada, visit the reception desk in any Tamwood campus to learn more about our bi-weekly information sessions held in multiple languages. These sessions offer students an opportunity to meet the student services team and ask questions in their first language as they settle into life in Canada. If you are a new student, join us for a tour of Tamwood’s campuses every Monday! See any campus reception area to sign up.
- Social Events, Activities & Welcome Parties: Tamwood offers free social events each week to help new students make friends, feel at home, practice their English, and become part of the Tamwood community. See the monthly activity calendar available at the front desk or at tamwood.com/student-events to see what’s happening each week and to sign up for events like on-campus yoga, movie night, fun Fridays (with snacks and DJ), as well as ongoing cultural events, activities and excursions. If you are a new student, don’t miss our welcome party (held every main start date week)!
- Office Hours – Academic Advising: Every Monday our student services team will stop by your classroom to share important information on upcoming events, as well as invite you to the weekly office hours every Wednesday. Students are invited to drop by with any questions and receive guidance on class placement, level progression, course options, assistance with e-textbooks and learning platforms, as well as support for navigating school resources. It’s also a great opportunity to connect with staff, get quick answers, and receive guidance to help students succeed academically and feel confident in their studies.
- Student Support Services: Students can email with questions or concerns anytime and receive support quickly, even outside of class hours by contacting online@tamwood.com. Service is available 7 days a week from 4am–10pm Pacific Time.
- Graduation Celebrations: Graduation celebrations take place in every campus at 1pm every Friday. Join us to congratulate Tamwood students who are finishing their programs and celebrate their accomplishments at a fun, weekly event. Don’t forget to share your graduation photos on social media and tag us at #iloveTamwoodlanguage 🧑🎓🎉
